Research overviewLiquid-crystalline properties allow emulsions to markedly improve the skin's barrier function and its water-binding capacity. The molecular arrangement of the lipid substructures corresponds in many respects to that in the stratum corneum – creams of this kind virtually melt into the skin.
Increases the skin's moisture content by promoting the formation of the membrane protein aquaporin-3, thereby improving the flow of water from the basal layer of the epidermis into the stratum corneum.
In one study, moisture content rose by 131 % after 56 days (20 women aged between 30 and 50, 2 % formulation, applied twice daily).
