The right care begins with your skin type.
The skin is the largest human organ. For our cosmetics line to work at its best, the individual care products need to be matched to your skin type.
Internal and external factors determine what your skin needs.
The skin performs a wide range of tasks – protective, storage and metabolic functions. To support it in these, it needs care tailored to its type.
Your skin type depends on internal factors such as sex, age, predisposition and diet – and on external factors such as your care routine, humidity, UV exposure, temperature and environmental pollutants.
Besides skin type as defined by lipid and moisture content – normal, oily and dry skin – the sensitivity and age of your skin are also decisive in choosing the most suitable product.
Normal skin
Normal skin is robust, firm and well supplied with blood. The pores are barely visible. The skin has a fine matt sheen, does not feel tight and is smooth, velvety and supple to the touch.
The aim with this skin type is to maintain it – through regular care with moisturising O/W emulsions and creams. O/W stands for “oil-in-water”: the oil phase is finely dispersed in water, which makes the preparation light and moisture-rich.
Moisturising O/W care to maintain the balance
As the aim here is maintenance rather than compensating for a deficit, a regular, moisture-rich day cream from our daily care range is sufficient.
Oily skin
The skin is robust, has very large pores and is usually covered by a shiny film of sebum. It tends to develop comparatively fewer wrinkles and lines, but is more prone to blemishes and consequently to blackheads and spots.
Oily skin can be either moist or dry. Adolescents in particular tend to have oily-moist skin, while the oily-dry type is more common among older people. It presents with greasy flakes; the skin is sensitive and tends to feel tight, especially after washing.
Oily skin is best cared for with O/W emulsions and creams with a low lipid content. Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory actives are beneficial.
A low lipid content – and the right additional actives
Because oily skin can be either oily-moist or oily-dry, and because antibacterial and anti-inflammatory actives are beneficial, individual customisation in your pharmacy is the most direct route here. The overview table shows which customisation suits which presentation.
Dry skin
Dry skin tends to be dull and rough. It also has fine pores and is brittle and slightly cracked. It often has flaky areas, reacts sensitively to changes in temperature and itches from time to time.
Very mild cosmetic products should be used for cleansing. For daily skincare, moisturising and lipid-replenishing products with an anti-inflammatory action are particularly suitable.
Moisture and lipids – for the face and the body
For daily facial care, the Intensive Cream for Dry Skin is the obvious choice; for larger areas, the Body Milk. For cleansing, choose a particularly mild product.
Combination skin
The T-zone – forehead, nose and chin – is characterised by oily skin, while the remaining areas of the face are comparatively dry, tight and flaky. Blackheads and spots occur more frequently in the T-zone.
Treating combination skin with a single combination product only works where the condition is mild to moderate. Where it is strongly pronounced in particular, experience shows that using two different creams – one for oily and one for dry skin – is markedly more effective.
Two creams rather than one compromise
Where the condition is mild to moderate, a single combination product is sufficient. Where combination skin is strongly pronounced, combine the recommendations for the two skin types involved – one product for the T-zone, one for the remaining areas.
Sensitivity and age of the skin
Skin type as defined by lipid and moisture content is only half the decision. The sensitivity and age of your skin are just as decisive in choosing the most suitable product. Together, the two dimensions give you the right care.
Mature skin: anti-ageing in a light or intensive texture
For mature skin we offer two anti-ageing creams. Which one is right depends on the lipid and moisture content of your skin: the light cream where less lipid is needed, the intensive cream where more is.
